Asus ROG Phone 2

Overall Ratings:
Description:

ASUS's ROG Phone 2 is the refinement of the Asus original ROG Phone, which launched in June 2018. The phone targets the same market as the OnePlus 7 Pro, Black Shark 2 and Razer Phone 2 driven by gaming and entertainment focus.

What makes the original ROG Phone clicked with gamers was its 90Hz display, and now entice gamers even more with the specs bump in ROG phone 2 - It’s a 6.59-inch 1080p OLED panel with an integrated fingerprint sensor, support for 10-bit HDR, and a Razer Phone 2-matching refresh rate of 120Hz. The touch sampling rate is twice that, at 240Hz, and Asus claims its touch latency of 49ms is the lowest of any phone. You can choose whether to run stock Android or Asus’ ROG UI as part of the phone’s setup process.

Since games need as much single-threaded CPU performance as they can get to run at their best, the ROG phone 2 comes with a Snapdragon 855 Plus processor that provides 15 percent faster GPU performance and higher peak clock speeds on the CPU. Also according to Asus, its cooling system includes a vapor chamber and vents to prevent throttling of the 855 Plus’ peak speeds.

Storage-wise, the ROG Phone 2 also has 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB. It has a 48-megapixel camera, and a 6,000mAh battery that the company claims should be good for more than 7 hours of PUBG with the screen set to 60Hz.

Some changes to the design from ROG original phone such as the hard-anodized, matte black metal band forming the core of the phone, while sheets of Corning Gorilla Glass 6 sandwich the front and back of the device. There is a curved edge of the back glass to make the ROG Phone 2 more natural to hold in normal use. And its 19.5:9 aspect ratio means that it remains comfortable to use in one hand.

Its twin speakers with DTS:X Ultra processing produces clear audio for games, movies, or music. For situations where you need to game in private or just want to listen through your favorite cans, ASUS retains the dedicated 3.5mm headphone jack that other premium smartphones have traded-off.
