The Sevenhug Smart Remote U is a smart controller that builds more functionalities on its predecessor - the Smart Remote, a universal remote with contextual awareness, launched on Kickstarter a few years back. Smart Remote paired with the Sevenhugs Home Platform offers an easy and intuitive way to control your TV, Music, Lights or any other smart gadgets you might have installed at home through a single adaptive interface.
Instead of physical buttons, it utilizes a touchscreen that can adapt itself to whatever device you’re currently controlling. You can even point the Smart Remote at whatever gadget you want to control, such as a smart light, thermostat, or TV, and it will automatically present the appropriate controls for that device. It uses sensors installed in the room as well as its own motion sensors to orient itself.
The Smart Remote U maintains the ability to control both entertainment and smart home devices, as well as the sleek, touchscreen design. What it trades off is the ability to point the remote at something and have it automatically adjust its display.
According to Sevenhugs, it is compatible with “over 650,000 devices”, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and infrared control, and have the ability to control up to 80 devices from a single remote. It also supports automation schemes, so a press on the button can trigger lighting, video, and audio simultaneously. Like other universal remotes, the Smart Remote U also has infrared learning for simple programming.
