Sony 35mm F1.8 FE lens
Sony has unveiled the FE 35mm f/1.8 lens for its full-frame mirrorless cameras. The lightweight camera lens — which according to Sony, “sets a new standard for portability” allows Sony shooters to own an affordable, but a slightly slower alternative to the popular Sony Distagon T* FE 35mm f/1.4 ZA.
Offering outstanding image quality even at its maximum F1.8 aperture, this compact and lightweight 35-mm prime lens for full-frame cameras is a versatile choice for everything from tabletop photography to the great outdoors. Fast, precise and quiet AF operation with AF tracking makes it suitable for shooting videos and stills.
As emphasized by Sony, the FE 35mm f/1.8 lens portability also largely comes from its weight - a mere 9.9 oz (280 g) and is just 65.6 mm in diameter by 73 mm in length. That convenience and mobility do not compromise image quality in the least which makes it a great choice for a variety of outdoor shootings. It is a full-frame lens but also balances well with APS-C bodies, providing an equivalent focal length of 52.5 mm that is ideal for portraits and snapshots.
An aspherical element is strategically implemented in this lens’s advanced design to suppress optical aberration and achieve high resolution right out to the image periphery. Smooth bokeh is available when needed, supported by a 9-blade circular aperture mechanism that contributes to natural-looking highlights. 0.73 ft (0.22 m) minimum focus distance and 0.24x maximum magnification make this lens useful for close-ups too.
A conveniently placed focus hold button not only offers easy focus hold control but can be assigned to a variety of other functions from a menu accessed via the camera body. The lens also features a focus mode switch that allows instant switching between auto and manual focus. A dust- and moisture-resistant design1 ensures maximum reliability in challenging shooting environments.
