I've added a few smart home devices to my house and I'm mostly concerned about privacy and the longevity of my devices before they become obsolete. I failed to consider either of those issues when I first started buying. This article provides a good list of things to look at before making that first purchase.
While it may seem more convenient to have all of your smart home appliances controlled in a single app, I'd be wary of being forced into ONLY using one app for everything in the home. Operating lights, or the dishwasher, or the garage door, or the alarm system all in a single app created specially for that home might mean you are locked into certain models and brands for each device offered. That means that if you need to replace your dishwasher ten years from now, something will have to be backwards compatible with essentially your homes firmware. Or better yet, you may have to shell out for an expensive software upgrade to handle the new dishwasher's undoubtedly futuristic tech. I think we should instead ask for more versatility from all smart home appliances to the point that it resembles the universal remote control of televisions.
My first response was feeling excited at how amazing the technology is, but the article reminded me of a privacy issue that might arise from this system. How do you think we should handle this feature?
I don't know how to describe this gadget whether it is amazing or crazy. It is amazing because mounting it on the ceiling will give us a different angle of watching. It is crazy because not all ceilings have the same height.
I agree with the author that it's ironic that we need a few more tools to replace all the wires. That makes the new system equally vulnerable as the old one; an error from one of them and the whole system will go down.
I'm not surprised Amazon is ending these since Germany ruled that the buttons violated the country's consumer protection laws. I'm not sad to see them go. The buttons symbolized uncontrollable consumerism.
It may be able to tell you the quality of your sleep, but I can tell if my sleep isn't enough by counting the hours and thinking about how I feel when I wake up. The features don't sound vital enough for now.
Using a VPN to get access to cool shows outside of your jurisdiction is the obvious choice for most people but who knew there are many more ways of improving your experience? I love the Netflix Enhancer extension since I prefer to watch a movie/show based on external reviews.
What do you think bout the latest controversy surrounding smart home devices? I don't get why these companies don't just disclose when products have mics and cameras and they're watching us. Sometimes it's legit.
The end product is so beautiful that I wish all upcoming smart home gadgets will consider this method. What kind of combination do you want to see in the future?
There are rumors going around that Apple's 2017 4K TV is being sold at their cost, while their HomePod is actually being sold at a small loss. Do you believe these rumors? I say no way.
I can't get enough of them. I'm forgetful early in the mornings, and these handy things are my go-to for all the electronics I typically forget to turn off - the iron, the Christmas tree lights in December, and the coffee maker.
