For years, I think the big news companies ignored digital currency and blockchain which allowed a new group of blogs, news sites, and magazines to report on this new industry with little thought to journalistic integrity.

I agree with you. To some extent, nobody thought that the blockchain technology would become a hit and so it continued being popular even without the required publicity. Journalistic integrity seems to be a rare gem nowadays.
