One would assume that encryption involves use of third party apps, but from this article, the process seems pretty straightforward. What other ways can we use to protect the data on our devices?

According the article, enabling Apple's built in encryption only encrypts certain folders. Maybe that's enough though, since I don't typically keep sensitive information on my phone.

I am guilty of assuming that the data on my phone is very safe, without any need of encryption. Whenever I come across such articles, I am reminded of the simple fact that we can never things for granted anymore.
