I woke up one morning and my laptop wouldn't boot. Later on, it dawned on me that the hard drive was damaged and nothing could be done to rectify the situation. I lost tons of documents and media and who knows, maybe a simple check would have resolved it?

Thanks for the reminder. I haven't run a check on my hard drive in a while. It's important yet so easy to forget. Sorry to hear you lost all of your files! That's horrible. Hopefully you didn't lose anything too important.
