It almost seemed that Facebook would not be in the news for all the bad reasons anymore but then the issue around data privacy may not go away just yet. Is independent regulation the way to go then?

I think our politicians need to enact laws that protect our data and privacy. Then they actually need to enforce those laws. Otherwise, corporations will continue to care about nothing more than the almighty dollar.

These corporations are well structured, with a legal arm that keeps tabs on current happenings. Facebook, as well other social media giants, wouldn't take anything lightly, if it pointed towards legal suits so I agree that the politicians need... See more

I agree legislation is the only way to go. There should be more of a penalty than strictly financial, or the fines need to be higher. These billion dollar corporations seem to pay the fine and then go on to break the same rules over and over.

The funny thing is that those that are tasked with legislation are often more involved in investigation than formulating important laws for the industry. Well, maybe everything else will change with time?
