Nowadays there are laptops suited for different functions and much as this list excludes some brands, I agree with this article to some extent. I am yet to own a MacBook and the review here gives it a lot of strong points.

I struggle to understand why somebody would purchase a MacBook that has less power than a Windows machine with a much higher price tag. Is the brand really all that important?

Other people consider a MacBook to be more powerful than a Windows PC and so it depends on a user's preference. In my opinion, the MacOS is refined, stable and easy to use. Cost definitely becomes an issue when shopping for a PC.

Realistically, I think it matters most in terms of computer longevity and resale value more than anything else. Other than that, I think people naturally stick with what they know.

On the other hand, most people purchase laptops without the thought that it can be resold in future. Brand seems to (subconsciously) dictate the laptop that will first cross a potential buyer's mind.
