It's really not just about Apple. Most tech manufacturers make it impossible or nearly impossible for a layman to repair their products so we have to continually spend more. It's bad for our budgets and even worse for the environment.

I understand wanting the option to fix your own electronics, but I doubt many people would take advantage of it if they could. Having to properly dispose of the parts could be an obstacle too.

I think that there are two sides to this discussion and much as it may be cheaper to repair your own product, there is only so much you can do without the technical knowledge.
