It is a good idea to involve testers so as to gather feedback but in doing so, is Twitter trying to remain relevant or appeal to a larger crowd? Who knows, perhaps it will work in the company's favour.

Twitter caters for a different social crowd and so the progress of this development will depend on the feedback gathered. I think that trying to change a few things so as to appeal to a bigger chunk of the population may not necessarily work.
