Over the years, the USB stick has proven to be an important device and it is the obvious choice for most people because of its portability. All the same, I personally prefer the external hard drive because the former can easily get lost/misplaced. Also, I now see how vital it is to encrypt the files therein, just in case this device ends up in the wrong hands.

I stopped losing them once I started buying the USB thumb drives that hook on my keys. I keep some standard rescue apps on it like the article suggests.

Though this is a safer method, there is still the risk of losing your keys as well, As a matter of precaution, I only carry the USB stick whenever I need to transfer files rather than as a storage device.

I typically just use them to transfer documents from my home computer to my work computer, but I'm going to try some of the suggestions in the article like creating a Linux based OS.

I'm so bad for losing my USB sticks. I lose one, buy a new one, lose that one, and the cycle continues. I find them randomly and forget what was on them. I may be the worst.

Their low prices are a huge advantage and so it makes sense to buy a number of them. As for the external hard drives, it is better to go for the brands that are shock-resistant and less prone to breaking when they fall accidentally.
