If I was asked, I wouldn't recommend this switch at all but perhaps this is a major business decision that has gone through a clear thought process. Either way, is this a hit or miss?

In their own words, the shift to the USB-C will bring a new set of capabilities like connecting to other accessories or high-resolution external displays. Wouldn't it have been easier to give the lightning port the same capabilities?

Rumors around Apple ditching the lightning port have been there for a while. This is one accessory that has given the smartphone brand an identity and I am not certain if this will be done away with completely.
